The Washington Health Alliance has been awarded a grant from the ABIM Foundation to help advance the goals of the Choosing Wisely® campaign. This initiative seeks to help physicians and patients have conversations about the overuse of tests and procedures and supports physician efforts to help patients make smart and effective care choices. Physicians and patients need to work together to choose care supported by evidence, that doesn’t duplicate other tests or procedures, that won’t cause harm and is truly necessary.
As part of Choosing Wisely, national organizations representing medical specialists have created lists of five common tests or procedures whose use in their profession should be discussed or questioned. These “Things Physicians and Patients Should Question” lists provide specific, evidence-based recommendations physicians and patients should discuss to help make wise decisions about the most appropriate care for them.
The Alliance has partnered with the ABIM Foundation, the Washington State Medical Association and Consumer Reports to help you make sure you’re Choosing Wisely when it comes to your care by providing easy-to-understand resources for consumers and physicians based on these lists.
